Union Rescue Mission of Wichita, Inc.

Who are we?

The Union Rescue Mission is . . .
the hands of Christ reaching out with Love, often reaching out to the “Unloved.”

The Union Rescue Mission is . . .
the extended arms of the various churches in the Wichita community, offering Christ’s Plan of Salvation to the Least, the Lost, and the Lonely.

The Union Rescue Mission is . . .
today’s living example of ‘The Good Samaritan’*

“An expert in the law asked Jesus,
‘who is my neighbor?’ And Jesus replied,
“A man was going…to Jericho, when he fell into the hands of robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him, and went away, leaving him half dead.

A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side.

So too, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side.

But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came to where the man was, and when he saw him, took pity on him. He went to him and bandaged his wounds… Then he put the man on his own donkey, took him to an inn and took care of him. The next day he took out two silver coins and gave them to the innkeeper. ‘Look after him,’ he said, ‘and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.’

Jesus then said, “Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?”

The expert in the law replied, “The one who had mercy on him.” Jesus told him, “Go and do likewise.”

Every day of the year, for over 62 years, the Union Rescue Mission of Wichita, KS continues to “do likewise.”

*The Parable of the Good Samaritan, as recorded in Luke 10:29-37

Our Mission Statement

The Union Rescue Mission is an evangelical Christian ministry committed to sharing the Gospel and meeting the spiritual, physical, and emotional needs of the homeless and poor in our community.

Our Statement of Faith

  • We believe in the Bible, both Old and New Testaments, as the inspired, infallible and inerrant Word of God, the only record of His Son, our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and that it is the supreme and final authority in faith and life.
  • We believe in one God eternally existing in three persons, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
  • We believe that Jesus was begotten by the Holy Spirit and born of a virgin; that he lived a sinless life; wrought miracles, and preached an everlasting and unchanging gospel. (Matthew 1:18-25 and John 20:30-31).
  • We believe in the absolute deity of The Lord Jesus Christ, that he is Very God, and at the same time very man.
  • We believe that man was created in the image of God; that he sinned and thereby incurred not only physical death, but that all human beings are born with a sinful nature, and that those who reach the age of accountability are sinners in thought, word and deed, therefore standing in the need of The Savior.
  • We believe in salvation by regeneration, being born again by The Holy Spirit. By God’s own gift of righteousness bestowed upon us through the precious Blood of Jesus Christ are we saved.
  • We believe that the Holy Spirit abides in us to lead us into all truth and to preach the unsearchable riches of Christ Jesus and that we are called to be witnesses by word and deed. (I Cor. 15:58).
  • We believe in the death, burial and resurrection of our Blessed Lord Jesus Christ, and His personal and imminent return; in the bodily resurrection of the just and the unjust, the eternal blessedness of the saved and the eternal and conscious punishment of the lost.
  • We believe that the Word of God was given by inspiration of The Holy Spirit and is profitable for a fruitful Christian life as it is clarified in II Timothy 3:16.
  • We believe concerning the charisma that when regeneration takes place, the believer is immediately baptized by The Holy Spirit. (I Cor. 12:13, Romans 8:9b). Subsequently, the believe is filled with the Holy Spirit as he yields himself to the Spirit’s control. We further believe that the gift of tongues is fulfilled in its purpose with the completion of God’s written revelation according to I Corinthians 13:8-10.
  • We believe that Christians are to live lives separated unto God which will preclude membership in secret organizations (II Corinthians 6:14).

Principals of Stewardship

The Lord holds us accountable for good stewardship in everything we do. Listed below are the financial principles that the Executive Director, and the Board of Directors try to adhere to:

  • To set high standards for financial accountability and submit to an annual audit by a Christian CPA firm.
  • To encourage donors to meet their obligation to support their home church as well the Mission.
  • To act with integrity and honesty when raising funds and seeking financial support.
  • To use all gifts prayerfully, conservatively, and efficiently, realizing that good stewardship requires keeping administrative expenditures as low as possible.
  • To insure that 100% of financial donations directly supports the ministries and programs of the Union Rescue Mission.
