Denny Bender had been a member of the Mission’s Board of Directors since retiring as Area Vice President of the Kansas Arthritis Foundation. He was named Executive Director of the rescue mission in May of 2012.
Denny brings with him more than 15 years of nonprofit experience. Prior to his responsibilities with the Arthritis Foundation, he spent six years as senior vice president for communications at Habitat for Humanity International, overseeing that home building organization’s worldwide marketing and public relations efforts.
He is active in Kairos Prison Ministry and worships with his wife, Joan, at Eastminster Presbyterian Church in Wichita.
Tom Myers started his service at the Union Rescue Mission as Security for Third Shift nearly five years ago, and later became a Case Manager working with the students in the Christian-based New Beginnings Life-Change Program. In 2009 Tom became Director of Men’s Ministries, overseeing the direction and activities of the Overnight Emergency Shelter as well as the activities of the New Beginnings Program.

Director of Grant & Volunteer Services
Julie has been with the Union Rescue Mission since 1998, and is currently responsible for Grant writing for the organization, as well as actively speaking as a URM representative at churches, civic organizations, and various Missions Fairs throughout the area.
Food Services Director
Cesar Castellanos is the newest member of our staff. He oversees everything in the Kitchen, Pantry, and Community Food Box Ministry. He brings years of experience and a strong passion for serving the poor and needy in our community.
Cesar is married to Citlalli for 10 years with two children. They are members of Central Christian Church.
Stuart Ferrell comes to the URM with several years of Donor Relations experience and Christian Stewardship, gained from his many years in Leadership and Financial Management with Crown Ministries in Wichita and the surrounding areas.
Stuart will be developing relationships and working closely with our URM Donors, in addition to his work in Planned Giving for the Union Rescue Mission.
